Our families are based in German speaking East Switzerland and French speaking West Switzerland. It is advisable that applicants have some knowledge of either German or French. Most families want you to speak English with their children but they will speak to you in the local language enabling you to learn. It is your own choice to attend  language classes.

The application for a work permit is a slow one. It can take up to 8 weeks before the necessary documentation from Switzerland reaches Australia so that you can apply to the Swiss Consulate for your work permit and permission to enter Switzerland to be an aupair. It is best to apply for this country at least 5 months in advance of when you would like to go.

Please note that the pocket money is just that. Should you wish to travel in Europe we suggest that you take additional money or a credit card with you.
