
Aupair in Norway
You do need to speak Norwegian to aupair in Norway. Norway is a country of high mountains, pine forests, lakes, fjords and a beautiful coastline. You can spend time in the host family’s cabin in the mountains or by the sea. There are only 4.5 million people in Norway so there is plenty of space and clean air. Oslo the Capital and largest city has about half a million people living there. There are few large cities in Norway but there is an excellent transport system.
There is always a demand for aupairs and those with a qualification are highly valued. Families will give preference to applicants with the JCR childminding/aupair certificate. Obtain your aupair certificate now through the on-line JCR Aupair course. Benefit by being given priority placement.
Age Group: 18 – 30 Single Females only.
Education: Completed year 10 or higher.
Childcare Experience: Minimum 50 hours but up to 200 hours is preferred. This can be any fairly regular interaction with children not related to you, up to age 12.
Period of commitment: 6, 9 and 12 months placements throughout the year. Stays can be extended for a further year.

12 month Working Holiday Visa
Holders of an EU passport are not subject to any visa conditions but they have to register for a work permit with the Norwegian authorities.
Applicants to Norway must speak good English as families wish their children to learn to speak English. You pay your own return airfare.
AUPAIR
- Work 5 hours per day up to a maximum of 30 hours per week.
- Childcare such as cooking simple meals, tidying up after the children, bath time and light housework which could include, dusting, vacuuming, laundry and ironing.
- Have 1 day free per week which has to be a Sunday twice a month
- Be a non smoker
- Have a valid driving license
- Be willing to go to classes to learn Norwegian [Not applicable to the W H Visa]
- Be willing and able to adapt to another culture
- Have a good sense of responsibility and a positive attitude
YOU GET
- Your own comfortable room, shared or own bathroom
- Full board and lodge.
- Earn NOK 4000 per month before tax
- At the end of your stay you will be given 10.2% of the value of your board and lodge plus salary as vacation money
- NOK 6000 per year towards the cost of language classes
- Full back up and support from JCR’s associate in Norway with monthly meetings in Oslo and twice a year in Stavanger and Bergen

You will be covered by the Norwegian Health Service during your stay, and your host family will register you. This means that if you get ill during your stay, you will only have to pay a small fee for the medical treatment at the hospital or the doctor (public health care).
After arrival you have to present yourself for examination for tuberculosis, mass radiography, tuberculin tests and if necessary vaccination against tuberculosis. The host family will assist you with this.
If you get ill, your host family is has to provide you with free board and lodging during the illness up to two weeks duration. If the illness lasts longer than two weeks, JCR’s associate will consult the doctor and decide whether or not you should return home.
JCR’s associate will arrange that you are also provided with travel insurance cover.
Attendance at a language school is a requirement of the visa. If you already speak Norwegian you may choose some other courses to do.
Attendance at language school is optional for holders of the Working Holiday Visa or an EU passport but we do strongly advise that you go to classes. We suggest that all applicants have at least 200 words of basic Norwegian before they leave. Knowing some vocabulary will help you to settle in. There are good books and internet sites to learn from.
From the time of matching with a family the process to obtain the work permit can take up to 8 weeks.
Please note that in summer it is light all day and well into the night but in winter it is dark much of the day. If there is not much snow there is half light between 10am-3pm. Temperatures can drop as low as below -10C outdoors. Applicants for this program need to take these facts into consideration, especially if they live in a warm climate with year round day light. You may find it hard to acclimatise at first.
The amount paid to you is pocket money and should be accepted as that. It is suggested that should you wish to travel in Europe, you take additional money with you or a debit card.
