The application for a work permit is a slow one. It can take up to 8 weeks before we receive the necessary documentation from Austria so that you can apply to the Austrian Consulate for your work permit and permission to enter Austria to be an aupair. It is best to apply for this country at least 5 months in advance of when you would like to go.

It is wise for aupairs to have at least a working knowledge of basic German as it is possible that you may have to speak a little to Consular officials who issue the work permit.
