AuPair & Nanny Programs
JCR offers aupair or nanny placements in the countries listed on the right - select a country to find out more.
JCR has exclusive associate offices in all countries offered and therefore is able to offer secure and well supported positions to prospective au pairs.
The majority of aupair positions are for 12 months, but 6 and 9 month aupair positions are available but not as frequently, and can take some time to organise.
In general, host families look for English mother tongue au pairs.
If your choice of program is a country in Europe you do not need to be able to speak the language. Families in Europe particularly want an au pair who speaks mother tongue English as they wish their children to learn to speak English as a living language. The adults will speak to you in the language of the country and as you will be immersed in the language from morn til night, all around you, it will not take that long before you are able to hold a basic conversation. You will find that in most European countries one or both host parents will speak English at some level or other. In France and Spain and in parts of Italy the ability to speak English will be very basic. This is really ideal as it makes learning the host country's language so much easier when you are not tempted to lapse into English.
In all countries other than Denmark, attending language school is compulsory for aupairs unless you are travelling on an EU passport or on a working holiday visa, in which case going to language school is optional.
We like to suggest that our aupairs do try to learn some basic vocabulary before they leave. Going to a language school for a while to learn a few good basic phrases, is a good investment in yourself. There are good CDs and DVDs available to help you get started. Maybe your local library will have something you can borrow.
If you have access to an EU passport, no matter which country in the EU, you may enter any EU country as an aupair and can stay for whatever length of time you wish, nor is there any age restriction other than that governed by what families want. Please note however, that on aupair visa programs where a family would normally provide health cover, the family is not obliged to provide that cover if you are travelling on an EU passport or a working holiday visa. However, JCR does its best to negotiate such cover for you and will advise you on the best visas to apply for.
Your Australian or New Zealand passport must be valid for at least six months longer than the time period you plan to be away for.
Provided an application meets the requirements of a program, such as age, education, non smoking, ability to drive, the number of months required by the program, good physical and mental health, no criminal record; then JCR is able to guarantee a placement. We cannot guarantee a specific day, week or even month but we will place you, if you are patient!!!
