You pay your own round trip airfare and travel/health insurance cover. This program is aimed at travellers to Europe who would like to spend 30-90 days in any one country living in, full board and lodge, in return for mainly 15 hours a week but could be up to 30 hours a week, tutoring English. To be accepted on this programme you must:
There are opportunities for people:
Placements and countries would depend on the above. You do not need to speak the language of the country you apply to go to. If you wish to learn something of the host country language you can ask the host parents to speak to you so that you can learn enough to get around with. This arrangement would be made between yourself and the family. You are able to choose to tutor for 30, 60 or 90 days. You could be tutoring:
You should be flexible as to which situation is available and to where a family may be living. Tutoring could be just general conversation, English to help in work or business or for a specific need such as a tour guide. In the main you would stay with the person, persons or family you are tutoring. If tutoring in a school or for an association you would live with a chosen family. Full board and lodge. In return for this you would spend 15 hours a week with the person, persons or family, 3 hours per week day usually in the late afternoon-early evening. Most families ask for 15 hours a week in return for living with them, full board and lodge. So the tutoring would be voluntary. Some program participants will pay a small stipend of say 40-60 Euro per week. Some program participants, such as schools or associations or families may ask for 25 or 30 hours a week tutoring and will pay 90 -100 Euro per week. Weekends and other hours are free so you will have plenty of time and opportunity to explore your surroundings, to visit nearby places, to sightsee, visit places of interest, even organise visits to other parts of the country and possibly gain some knowledge of the language of the country. If you are not TEFL/TESL trained you would have to think of ways and means to help the person/s to learn by using actions, mime, games, songs, movement, word games in fact anything you can think of to help them to gain confidence in understanding and speaking depending on the level they are at when you join them. The participants would expect to see some improvement in their language ability when you have completed your stay. Whilst you are free during the day, in the evenings outside of the 3 hour session and over weekends we must stress that as you will be living in someone's home you will be expected to help with general light tasks around the house such as keeping your own room clean, helping to keep the kitchen tidy, keeping anything you use clean and tidy. This would be respectful to your hosts. Placement options:
Australian and New Zealand passport holders may enter any EU country on the 90 day visa waiver for up to 90 days at a time but with one entry and one exit only. Once you leave, after the 90 day stay, you must stay out of that country for a further 90 days before being able to return for a another 90 day stay. You can leave before the 90 days is up to go to another country but cannot return to the first country until a further 90 days has passed. Should you wish to go in and out of the same countries a number of times during your stay you will have to apply for the 90 day Schengen visa. If from America, Canada or South Africa you should apply for the 90 day Schengen visa. There are no restrictions for EU passport holders. For example, you could tutor for one month in France and for one month in Italy and one month in Spain if you wished. We would discuss the order of the countries but applicants would have to be flexible as it will depend on what openings there are in the three different countries and when.
