GENERAL INFORMATION
JCR doesn't offer live out placements. All placements with a family are live in.
You may choose to take Italian lessons but it is not a requirement of the program.
Italian families do not provide health insurance cover. There is a reciprocal agreement between Australia and Italy that permits use of the Italian National health scheme for the first 6 months in the country. If you are going for longer than 6 months or you are not Australian you will need 12 months travel health insurance cover.
The WH Visa takes about 3 weeks to be issued from time of applying. The visa requires 12 months health insurance cover. You will need to show the Consulate that you have an amount of about $7000 available to you before the visa will be issued. You have to show proof of having health insurance cover.
Australian and New Zealand passport holders may apply for the 12 month working holiday visa to Italy. If you are from any other non EU country you will have to check if there is such a visa agreement with your country.
Families will want you to speak English to their children. If requested, the host parents will speak Italian to the au pair to help them learn the language. We suggest that all applicants have at least 200 words of basic Italian before they leave. Knowing some vocabulary will help you to settle in. There are good books and internet sites to learn from. We recommend www.rosettastone.com
The amount paid to you is pocket money and should be accepted as that. It is suggested that should you wish to travel in Europe, you take additional money with you or a debit card.
Italy is well placed to visit France, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Corsica, Sicily, North Africa.
Apply for this country 4 months in advance of when you wish to go.
