AU PAIR IN HOLLAND/ THE NETHERLANDS

You do not have to speak Dutch to be an aupair in Holland. Easy-going Netherlands is the home of historic figures such as Van Gogh, Rubens, Rembrandt and Anne Frank. Visit Teling (best theme-park of the world in 2001 and 2003) in the south of the Netherlands. Because of the location of this country you can play almost any outdoor (and indoor) sport you can imagine. Holland has lovely beaches during the summer and wonderful skating on frozen rivers in the winter. Riding a bike is an easy and efficient way of getting around the cities. Did you know that Holland is the most densely populated country in Europe?  That the capital is in fact Amsterdam but that the government is seated in The Hague? That the Dutch are known for the colour orange? Why, you ask? because it's the colour of the Royal Family. That's why they dress in orange and paint their faces at soccer matches, at the Olympics and on April 30th (a typically Dutch national holiday, known as the Queen's b-day).As an au pair in Holland you can experience vibrant Amsterdam, live a stone's throw from the Beach in The Hague, or work in bustling Rotterdam. Learn Dutch and get a feel for the easy going life style! Also, Holland is the portal to the rest of Europe: you can be in Paris within 4 hours and fly to London in an hour.

Au pair Age group: 18 - 25 inclusive. [au pair visa] 20-30 inclusive [Working Holiday visa].

Education: Completed year 12. Families will accept year 10 completion if followed by other studies or practical childcare experience.

Childcare Experience: Have a minimum of 50 hours babysitting experience.This can be any fairly regular interaction with children, not related to you, up to age 12. Experience with children related to you is acceptable but in addition to that of non related children. Applicants with more than 200 hours of childcare experience or a childcare qualification are very welcome on this program. All applicants to the Nanny program must have a suitable child care qualification.

Period of Commitment:  12 months all year round. 6 month placements are possible but not regularly so.

Summer Aupair:  Mid June to mid September inclusive. Applications open 1st November and close 31st March.

Visa:
12 month Au pair visa.

12 month Working Holiday  This visa is used if applying as an au pair age  26 - 29 inclusive or if you are applying as a qualified nanny.

Holders of a European Union passport are not subject to any visa conditions but do have to register with the Dutch authorities. EU passport applicants are not restricted by age and families will accept candidates over the age of 30.

Applicants to Holland/the Netherlands must speak English well as families wish their children to learn to speak English.

All positions are live in. All salaries quoted are net of tax unless otherwise advised.

For 12 month stays only families will provide a round trip ticket.  Please note that some families prefer to pay a contribution towards airfare and an end of stay bonus. This decision will depend on the family.

You pay your own round trip airfare if going for less than 12 months. You provide your own health insurance cover if travelling on the WH Visa.

Assistance with airfare is only applicable to a 12 month commitment to a family. It is not applicable to 6 month stays or summer aupair 3 month stays.

A driving licence is preferred but not essential. Being able to ride a bicycle is good as nearly everyone rides bikes.

AU PAIR

• Work for a maximum of 30 hours per week. Maximum of 8 hours per day.
• Care of  children plus some light housework which could include cooking, ironing, shopping, dusting and vacuuming.
• 1 or 2 evenings babysitting.
• Be a non smoker.
• Preferably have a valid driving license.
• Be able to ride a bicycle.
• Be willing to go to classes to learn Dutch.
• Be willing and able to adapt to another culture.
• Be emotionally mature, flexible and able to adapt easily.
• Have a sense of responsibility and a positive attitude.

IN YOUR AU PAIR WORLD YOU GET

• Your own comfortable room plus shared or own bathroom.
• Full board and lodge.
• 2 full days off per week and a minimum of one full weekend off per month.
• Earn 340 Euro per month.
• 2 weeks paid leave per year.
• Host family pays toward the cost of the visa (according to program conditions).
• Attendance at Dutch language classes is compulsory. [not applicable to holders of a Working Holiday Visa or EU passport]. Families pay towards the cost of the language course to a max of € 275 per year, provided you finish the course and stay at least 6 months with the family.
• Health insurance is paid for by the family.[Does not apply to holders of a Working Holiday visa but there is a reciprocal agreement between Holland and Australia which allows use of the Dutch health scheme while you are there. Holders of an EU passport may use the Dutch health scheme].
• Full back up and support from JCR's associate in Holland.

QUALIFIED NANNIES: [Travel on the working holiday visa only]

• Must be at least 20 years old.
• Must have a childcare qualification.
• Should have good practical experience with children new born to 12 years old.
• Work 40-45 hours per week.
• Sole charge of children.
• Light housework for the children.
• Must be prepared to make a12 month commitment.
• Be a non smoker.
• Preferably have a valid driving license.
• Be able to ride a bicycle.
• Be willing and able to adapt to another culture.
• Be emotionally mature, flexible and able to adapt easily.
• Have a sense of responsibility and a positive attitude.

IN YOUR NANNY WORLD YOU GET

• Your own comfortable room. Shared or own bathroom.
• Full board and lodge.
• Earn up to 800 Euro net per month depending on age and experience.
• 2 days free per week with one full weekend per month.
• 3 weeks paid leave per 12 months of stay.
• Between 600 - 1200 Euro family contribution to cost of airfare for stays of 12 months ONLY.

General Information

JCR doesn't offer live out placements. All placements with a family are live in.

Families will want you to speak English to their children. If requested, the host parents will speak Dutch to the au pair to help them learn the language. We suggest that all applicants have at least 200 words of basic Dutch before they leave. Knowing some vocabulary will help you to settle in. Australian and New Zealand passport holders enter Holland/The Netherlands on the 90 day visa waiver. Your au pair visa is applied for once you are with the family.  You will be assisted by JCR's associate and the host family in Holland to obtain your au pair visa.  If you are from any other country, please let us know and we will advise if the same provision applies to you.  If not, you will apply for the au pair visa from your home country.

Australian, New Zealand and Canadian passport holders only may apply for the 12 month Working Holiday visa to Holland/the Netherlands

The WH Visa can be applied for once the applicant has arrived in Holland/The Netherlands or from outside of Holland/Tthe Netherlands.

The WH Visa takes about 3 weeks to issue.

JCR will provide full information on applying for the au pair and WH visas and will provide full assistance prior to the visa application.

There is a reciprocal medical agreement between the Netherlands and Australia that passport holders of either nation may use the national health scheme of either country. This would be applicable to WH Visa applicants.

You should apply for this country about 5 months before you wish to go.

Holland/The Netherlands is well placed to travel to Denmark, Germany, Belgium, France.

The amount paid to you is pocket money and should be accepted as that. It is suggested that should you wish to travel in Europe, you take additional money with you or a credit card.
