AU PAIR IN AUSTRIA

Au Pair Age group: 19 - 26 inclusive. Males and females may apply.
Education: Completed year 10 in High School or higher.
Childcare Experience: Minimum experience is 50 hours of childcare but 200 hours is preferred. This can be any fairly regular interaction with children, not related to you, up to age 12. Experience with children related to you is acceptable but only in addition to that of non related children.
Qualified or well experienced applicants are welcome on this program. There is a demand for qualified or well experienced au pairs.
Period of commitment: 6 and 12 month placement all year round.
Summer aupair placement: mid June to mid September ONLY. Applications open in October and close mid April.
Visa: 6 or 12 month Au Pair Work Permit.
Holders of a European Union passport are not subject to any visa conditions but do have to register with the Austrian authorities. EU passport applicants are not restricted by age and families will accept candidates over the age of 30.
Applicants to Austria should speak English well as families want their children to learn to speak English.
All positions are live in. All salaries are quoted net of tax unless otherwise advised.
You pay your own round trip return airfare if going for less than 12 months. If you make a 12 month commitment to a family, JCR is in a position to negotiate assistance with the cost of airfare in particular if there is financial hardship. The amount of help will depend on the family.
AU PAIR
- Work about 25 hours per wee.
- Care of children plus light housework which could include cooking, ironing, shopping, dusting and vacuuming.
- Babysit for 1-2 evening.
- Be a non smoker.
- Preferably have a valid driving license.
- Be willing to go to classes to learn German.
- Be willing and able to adapt to another culture.
- Have a good sense of responsibility and a positive attitude.
- Be emotionally mature and able to adapt to another culture.
IN YOUR AU PAIR WORLD YOU GET
- Your own comfortable room, shared or own bathroom.
- Full board and lodge.

- Minimum of 1.5 days free per week.
- Earn Euro 60-80 per week net.
- 2 weeks paid holiday per 12 months.
- The family contributes 45 Euro per month towards the cost of language school. You may attend as many hours as you wish. [Approx cost 100 Euro for 12 weeks but it does vary from city to city].
- The family provides health insurance cover.

- Full back up and support from JCR's associate.
- Full back up and support from JCR head office in Australia.

Au pair General Information.
JCR doesn't offer live out placements. All placements with a family are live in.
To be granted a work permit you must be able to show proof of being able to understand and speak Germany to level 1A. This can be done by attending a 3 month German language course in your home country thereby obtaining a certificate showing that you have studied to this level. The Goethe Institute is recommended. A copy of the certificate must be sent in with your application.
You may have studied German at secondary or tertiary level education, if so, send proof with application.
You may have been an exchange student in Germany or have learned German in your family. If so, we suggest that you write the family letter in both English and German saying how well you speak and how you come to speak German.
The above requirement is not applicable to summer aupair.
The application for a work permit is a slow one. It can take up to 8 weeks before we receive the necessary documentation from Austria so that you can apply to the Austrian Consulate for your work permit and permission to enter Austria to be an aupair. It is best to apply for this country at least 5 months in advance of when you would like to go.
JCR will provide full information on applying for the au pair work permit and will provide full assistance prior to the visa application.
You should apply for this program about 4 months in advance of when you would like to go.
Austria is well placed to visit Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Switzerland.
The amount paid to you is pocket money and should be accepted as that. It is suggested that should you wish to travel in Europe you take additional money or a credit/debit card.
There is always a demand for aupairs and those with a qualification are highly valued. Families will give preference to applicants with the JCR childminding /aupair certificate. Obtain your aupair certificate now through the on-line JCR Aupair course. Benefit by being given priority placement.
