AU PAIR IN DENMARK

You do not have to speak Danish to be an aupair in Denmark. This is where Hans Christian Anderson was born - the author of wonderful fairytales including "The little mermaid", whose statue you can see in Copenhagen. Denmark is made up of many islands and whilst Copenhagen is a first-world city it is like living in a fairy tale village. Great seafood and wonderful friendly people.

JCR Aupairs & Nannies is the most trusted aupair/nanny agency for safe and secure placements and "in country" back up and support

Au Pair Age group: 19 - 29

Single females may apply

Education: Completed year 10 or higher.

Childcare Experience: Minimum 50 hours but 200 hours is preferred. This can be any fairly regular interaction with children not related to you, up to age 12.  . Experience with children related to you is acceptable but only in addition to that of non related children.

Period of Commitment: 12 month placements all year round.

Visa: 12 month Au pair visa. This visa can be extended if you wish to remain with the host family for a further 6 months.

Holders of a European Union passport are not subject to any visa conditions but do have to register with the Danish authorities.

Applicants to Denmark must speak English well as families wish their children to learn to speak English.
All positions are live in.
There is a small tax to be paid before you leave Denmark. It amounts to about 10% of what you are paid each month. We suggest that you put this amount of money on one side each month.

You pay for your own return ticket.
At the end of your aupair year the Danish family will refund half the cost of the ticket [this is a ruling of the Danish aupair visa]. If you really endear yourself to the host family over the 12 months, you may find that the family will give you the full cost of the airfare as a completion bonus but it is entirely the family’s prerogative to do so.
You may use the Danish Health Scheme once you have your au pair visa, about 8 weeks after applying.

Australian and New Zealand applicants are able to enter Denmark on the 90day visa waiver scheme and apply for the au pair visa once in Denmark. You will be assisted in preparing for this process to obtain your au pair visa by JCR’s associate and the host family. The visa takes about 8 weeks to be issued.  You will need to take out at least 8 weeks health insurance cover for the period until the visa is issued. You may use the Danish Health Scheme once you have your au pair visa.

If you are from any other country, please let us know and we will advise if the same provision applies to you.  If not, you must apply for the au pair visa from your home country.  It takes about 8 weeks for the visa to be issued.  As soon as you arrive in Denmark on the au pair visa you may register to use the Danish health scheme.

English is widely spoken in Denmark as a 2nd language.

Families will want you to speak English so that their children learn to speak English as a living language.

Attendance at a language school to learn Danish is optional. However, most Danish families are really impressed if you want to learn to speak Danish and will help you by speaking to you in Danish, to help you to learn. They also like you to attend classes to learn Danish. There are very low cost Danish classes available once you have your visa.

We suggest that all applicants have at least 200 words of basic Danish before they leave. Knowing some vocabulary will help you to settle in. There are good books and internet sites to learn from.

You should apply for this program about 4 months in advance of wishing to go.

Denmark is well placed to visit Sweden, Norway and Finland. Germany and Holland are just over the border.

The amount paid to you is pocket money and should be accepted as that. It is suggested that should you wish to travel in Europe, you take additional money with you or a credit/debit card.

There is always a demand for aupairs and those with a qualification are highly valued.
