Who can apply:

Nationality: Australian, New Zealand, American, Canadian, British, South African citizens who are mother tongue English speakers.

Age Group: 20 -60.  Females and Males.  

Period of Commitment: 12 months

Visa: Cultural Exchange Visa:  You will be advised which visa to apply for, be provided with any necessary documents and full details of how to apply once you have been accepted as a teacher. The working visa will be provided by the school or the school will provide the fee to do the visa extension inside China for 12 months.

You pay your own airfare to China. At the end of your contract you could be provided with a one way ticket home or 10,000 Yuan towards the cost of such a flight.
Basic health insurance cover is provided.

To be accepted on this programme you must:

• Must be Mother Tongue English speaking.
• Have a Bachelor degree or have a Bachelor degree plus a TEFL/TESOL certificate OR
• Have a TEFL/TESOL certificate with some experience.
• If possible, to have some teaching experience
• Speak really well and clearly
• Enjoy helping others to learn your language
• Be creative in making the learning process enjoyable
• Be patient with the people you will be helping
• Be willing and able to adapt to living in China
• Be willing and able to adapt to the Chinese culture
• Be in good health
• Have a sense of responsibility and a positive attitude

 You do not need to speak Chinese.  If you wish to learn to speak Chinese, arrangements can be made for you.

 You could be Teaching:

• in a kindergarten
• public or private primary school
• public or private middle school
• public or private high school
• university
• language schools

You should be flexible as to which situation is available.

You will have back up and support at all times from our associates and from Sybil at JCR head office in Australia.

You teach:

• Five days per week including weekends
• 18 to 25 x 40 minute periods per week
• 5 of these periods can be English activities outside the classroom
• Mainly English but if you are able to speak other languages, or have scientific knowledge you can be asked to do some classes in these subjects.

Teachers receive

• 2 free days per week to be taken over the period Monday to Friday inclusive.
• Private, fully furnished apartment with air conditioner, computer connection, TV, fridge, washing machine, equipped kitchen, shower and western style toilet.
• Enjoy all Chinese public holidays
• $1000-1200 salary per MONTH
• A 12 month contract
• At the end of a 12 month contract the school will pay a bonus or for the return flight home.

Teaching placements can be in any province on the Chinese mainland
Apply for this program about 3 months before you wish to go to allow time for the application, interview and acceptance and visa process.

Send in the following documents to P. O. Box 497, Bentleigh East, Victoria 3165, Australia.

• Letter to JCR advising when you wish to go. The period of time you agree to teach for.
• Up to date CV/Resume
• Copy of passport
• Full length smiling photograph
• 1 or 2 page letter talking a little about yourself and saying why you wish to teach in China. Sign the letter personally.
• Police Clearance. Finger print is not required, just a name check.
• Certificate of good physical and psychological health and no drug or drink dependency, from your doctor.
• Character reference. Two are required but you may submit as many as you wish. The character references should be from someone who knows you and can speak to your ability to teach English. The referees must provide their telephone number and email address so that we can verify.
• Copy of your degree and or TEFL/TESOL certificates

We will work with you through the placement process.
